Interview with Mish, Sally, Pace, Baby, Jamie, Gerard, Manuel, Raella, LKai, George, Terry, Miles, Jessica and Josie
JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail? Mish: It's not that bad Sally: ITS NICE TO GET LETTERS TO KNOW THAT THEY STILL
HAVE SUPPORT.. I NEVER GOT ANY LETTERS AND IT
SUCKED Pace: Don't give up! The reason why others get away
with things is because no one speaks up. If one
ASSHOLE is really out of hand it will be
resolved. Chances are if it happened to one it's
usually the agenda. Jails are just repetitious
attempts to punish people guilty or not. It's
repetitive Baby: Write them faithfully send them pictures give them
your support try to visit them and put money on
there books Jamie: do0nt go to jail Gerard: Put some money on your loved one's commissary.
Being able to eat different varieties of snack
food is a good distraction from boring jail
life. Get your loved one a soda card so they can
use the soda machine. Write letters every day so
they have something to get excited about. Visit
every chance you get so they can know that
someone outside cares for them.
And above all, when you get arrested, DON'T SAY
ANYTHING. You're not going to get out of this by
spilling your guts to the deputy who is just
doing his job. All you'll be doing is
incriminating yourself (like I did). Also get
bailed out if possible and find a REAL lawyer,
not a public defender who won't do a damn thing
to help. Manuel: try alternative programs like weekends or pay to
stay jail avoid oc jail Raella: Put money on their books! LKai: Be smart about what you do. Respect everyone
equally. Any gang affiliation that you had on the
street won't matter in jail, since it's all ran by
race in there, not gangs.
Don't lie in there as well. Always be honest. George: Send them money for commissary and do their best to
regularly communicate via mail. In addition,
sending books is a big deal as well. The money
helps them with interactions with other inmates and
when they're finished with the books, they can do
the same. Terry: THAT IT IS A VERY LONG AND SUFFERING EXPERIENCE FOR
ANYONE WHO GETS LOCKED UP THERE. IT IS VERY
UNHEALTHY AND CHANCES OF REHABILITATION IN UNLIKELY
GIVEN THE EMOTIONAL STRESS CAUSED BY THIS
EXPERIENCE. Miles: It's a low security jail with more freedom than
all the others. Just listen to the deputies and
follow the rules and don't get caught up in the
politics, your time will be fine.
JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them? Sally: BE RESPECTFUL AND DONT DO ANYTHING THAT WILL GET
IN MORE TROUBLE Pace: Don't try to be a hero while inside. They read
your mail, they listen to your phone
conversations. They will fuck with you, it's
guaranteed. I have been to many county jails and
a couple of prisons in the US and Mexico, they
make it there job to make themselves feel
superior. Get them back by writing about it. Keep
a journal, give your serious complaints to your
lawyer, or shoot your mail with someone that is
getting out. Family is number one count on them,
whomever they may be. Baby: Yeah, be polite to everyone Mostly the guards do
everything that is asked of you and more because
they do whip your ass. I was hurt more by the
guards and officer then anyone in the jail Jamie: get close to god do the right thing think before
you nmake any kind of decisions of the
consequenses Jessica: Just be respectful to the inmates and keep a
safe distance away from them. You are not
supposed to be within arms reach of a deputy. Manuel: keep your head up is a dog eat dog jail Raella: Do not question deputies, keep quiet when they
are around, eyes to the ground. Say, yes Ma'am,
sorry Ma'am, and no Ma'am. Don't whine, or cry.
They will make things worse for you. LKai: Take it easy, don't try to rush anything. Josie: memorize phone numbers and have money on you
when you go George: If you want regular access to the phone, get into a
worker's dorm and make sure to do the work to the
best of your ability so others aren't punished for
it. (That will get you into trouble.) Terry: MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO TRY TO GET PROBATION, OR IF
ONE MUST TO JAIL TIME, TRY TO GET TO A PROGRAM
FACILITY OR POSSIBLY WORK RELEASE. IF FACING A YEAR,
JUST GO AHEAD AND TAKE A YEAR AND A DAY IN
PRISON...BE OUT IN LESS TIME, EAT BETTER, STAY IN
SHAPE, AND POSSIBLY LEARN A TRADE! Miles: Just listen to the deputies and follow the rules
and don't get caught up in the politics, your time
will be fine. Take advantage off all the extra
activities available.
JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to. George: The Farm (Orange County in El Toro)
