Interview with Mish, Sally, Pace, Baby, Jamie, Gerard, Jessica, Manuel, Raella, LKai, Josie, George, Terry and Miles
JM: How many meals did you get per day? Mish: 3 Sally: THREE Pace: 3 but sometimes 2. you could win the lottery and
get four if they screw up cause you went to court.
Baby: Because I was lost in the loop 2 if I was lucky
when I got a cell 3 But I could only stomach to
eat about 1/2 of one Jamie: three Gerard: 3 meals a day. First meal is around 5:30 am or
so consisting of radioactive pancakes and
whatever else is available. Lunch is always a
mystery-meat sandwich, a carton of milk and
maybe some carrot sticks. Dinner was actually
decent and I looked forward to it. Burgers,
spaghetti, etc. were standard offerings. Jessica: 3 Manuel: 3 Raella: 3 LKai: Three. Josie: 3 George: We got a hot breakfast, a bag lunch, and a hot
dinner. Terry: YOU GET THREE SQUARE MEALS A DAY. Miles: We got three meals a day.
JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why. Mish: Not bad Sally: I DIDNT COMPLAIN I JUST ATE IT... IT WAS
FREE...LOL Pace: shit Baby: Dogs eat better Jamie: crappy Gerard: I didn't want to partake in breakfast because I
showered peacefully by myself while other guys
went to breakfast. Lunch wasn't too bad but it
does get tiresome of having the same thing every
day. Dinner is probably a 6 out of 10. Jessica: Some of it is awful...like the sack lunches.
The hot meals are okay though Manuel: sometimes good sometimes bad dessert is good Raella: moderate, no seasoning, but some of it, and ONLY
some, was downright GOOD. LKai: You get something different for breakfast and
lunch every time. But the sack-lunches are the
same, balogna sandwiches (2), with a carton of
milk and cookies. It gets old fast. Josie: horrible....all the meat is fake...it was soy... George: The bag lunches were terrible. The bread was
often stale, the meat was often discolored, and
the milk had usually leaked. Terrible.
The hot meals were much better, but I may believe
that because I worked in the kitchen and therefore
was able to give myself bigger portions of the
particular items I enjoyed. Terry: THE FOOD REALLY, REALLY, SUCKED IN JAIL. THE FOOD
WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE HERE. NO REAL MEATS OR
PROTEINS, ALL PROCESSED FOODS. VERY POOR SMALL
PORTION SIZES, ALWAYS COLD, ALWAYS HAVE TO STAND
IN A LONG LINE AND THEY BRING IT TO YOU, LET IT
SIT OUTSIDE FOR 30 MINUTES WHILE THEY TAKE THEIR
TIME AND COUNT...DISGUSTING! Miles: The food was a two out of ten in my opinion. IT
was just a bunch of instant microwave dinner type
of food and then aside of donated fruit or
vegetable.
They served this weird salisbury steak looking
piece of meat I guess, not exactly sure. I always
gave most of my food away.
JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals? Mish: Favorite was chile con carne, least favorite was
fish Sally: FAVORITE HMMM THE SLOPPY JOES, AND SPAGETTI AND
LEAST WAS THE LIVER Pace: If i worked in the kitchen it was good. If not i
remember the unsanitary conditions when I ate.
Baby: Oh that would been breakfast surprise ragu throw
on eggssurprize and what ever they could find to
throw in there it was the most gross thing I ever
smelled or looked in my entire life and I never
even touched it Jamie: put it this way ill never eat a bologna
sandwhich again Gerard: Not really. I only ate to keep my energy up and
I couldn't care less what we ate. Jessica: Yes Manuel: sos for breakfast Raella: Pasta salad was yummy, bologna sandwhiches not
too bad, haha. All the veges had no flavor
whatsoever. LKai: No. Josie: lunch...i hate bologne sandwiches George: They had a biscuits and gravy meal we called Shit on
a Shingle (they called it country breakfast) and it
was pretty good. The bag lunches were the worst. Terry: I HAD NO FAVORITE MEALS AT ALL WHILE IN JAIL. ALL OF
IT SUCKED, AND IF WE DIDN'T HAVE TO EAT TO LIVE I
WOULD HAVE NOT EATEN ANY OF IT. Miles: The Salisbury steak was probably my least favorite
meal, I guess oatmeal was probably my favorite
meal everyday. The fact that oatmeal was my
favorite is terrible, and speaks volumes to how
bad food was there.
JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it? Mish: Only if you bought it on commissary Sally: IF YOU BOUGHT IT OFF COMMISSARY Pace: Yes
Baby: No Jamie: commisary Gerard: If your family put money on your account, then
you can order commissary which could be Top
Ramen noodles, kool-aid packs, tea bags, various
chips, etc. Lots of inmates became masters at
mixing the various items and making food out of
them. I didn't get a chance to really eat much
of their creations but I heard that someone
figured out how to make salsa out of spicy
Cheetos and that someone figured out how to make
orange chicken flavor out of orange kool-aid
packs. Jessica: no Manuel: yeah you have commisary but you have to buy it
very expensive Raella: no LKai: Only through commissary. Josie: commissary George: The commissary was stocked with a lot of brand
name snacks as well as juice drinks, coffee (thank
God) and the like. It was pretty expensive
indeed, but more like convenience store expensive
than anything else. ($0.65 for a ramen pack)
Because I worked in the kitchen, I got some extra
snacks, but only when preparing, serving, or
cleaning up. Terry: WELL, COMMISSARY WAS THE ONLY OTHER SOURCE OF FOOD
YOU COULD GET TO. IT WAS ALL ONLY JUNK FOOD OFFERED.
MOST OF IT WAS FAIRLY CHEAP INDIVIDUALLY BOTH GETS
EXPENSIVE WHEN ORDERING FOR THE WEEK, ONLY ONCE A
WEEK. Miles: Yes, you could buy chips, candy bars, noodles, and
other items from the commissary. If you had no
money on your account you were out of luck unless
you knew how to hustle people for snacks.
