JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)? Sarah: jail house ones? Blue at Shasta... pant & top or
an orange jumpsuit... I have worn many of those. Paul: No outside cloths were allowed. Decent slip on shoes
were available for purchase through comissary, but
aside from that, you were only allowed to have the
jail uniform. Allan: None, I had a foot condition that required special
shoes but they wouldn't let me have them Erik: Nothing, But people could mail a variety of
thing for you to wear. Mostly we got sunglasses
t shirts, sneakers
JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you. Sarah: yes as long as it was clean who cares... but
it was clean & comfortable so... no complains. Paul: pants were navy blue canvas material similar to
and shirt was of the same color and material cut
in a way similar to medical scrubs. Boxers were
pink, as was the undershirt. Socks were pink, and
elastic left something to be desired. I
immediately bought shoes, of the style of the slip
ones that are made by Vans shoe company. They were
poorly made and of Chinese manufacture. They
lasted about a month before they started falling
apart. Once you bought shoes, the guards took your
jail issued shoes. You were not allowed to have
two pair. Then if you got to the kitchen they
issued you kitchen shoes, the guards would
confiscate the shoes you purchased as contraband,
stating that you were only allowed one pair Allan: Pink underwear, t-shirt and socks with a dark blue
set of "scrubs" that never fit right, and some
stupid slippers that don't fit or fall apart Erik: Both facilities had set uniformsLong pants and
jailhouse tee Jail uniform must be worn for all
measl and when moving around the yard.
Susanville let us wear shorts
JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned? Sarah: I suppose... workers would have a differeant
color them inmates... if you work in the
kitchen... your uniform & such & apron would be
important? Paul: look for pants, underwear and socks with good
elastic. The guards had no sympathy if your pants
were falling down, but they would write you up for
it Allan: If you could get a new t shirt, boxers or socks
etc. you tried to hang on to them and wash them
yourself, but the staff would take them if they
found them Erik: not really. Shasta oferred the same clothes to
eberyon. Susanville let us modiy the clothes.
Meaning someone in the laundry could modify the
pants and sometimes you'd find an old style the
cons thought were fashionable
JM: Was the clothing different between men and women? Sarah: i beleive so. Paul: the women had similar uniforms, from what little I
saw of them Allan: Other than the obvious difference , none, same
blue scrubs Erik: The basic uniform was the same. I don't know
much about it
