JM: Which jail did you visit?
Visitor: Shasta
Liza: shasta county

JM: How long ago was your visit?
Visitor: half an hour (sometimes more depending on the Guard) since we came from out of state.
Liza: 20 or less depends on the mood of guard controlling the visit sometimes we get a full 30 mins if we are lucky

JM: How many times did you visit?
Visitor: 5
Liza: twice a week monday nights and friday mornings

JM: How do you go about making an appointment to see an inmate?
Visitor: Confirm they are in custody. On the internet see which cell block they are in. Depending on the day depends when visiting is. Enter the front lobby with ID and fill out a visiting form with all your personal info. Wait for staff at front window to enter your info into their system. Lock up your purse etc in the lock box. Need 1 quarter (and a quarter for parking meter). Take off shoes, empty pockets (no cell phones) walk through metal detector. Depending on which floor the person is housed in you enter through the locked doors. Walk to the elevator and go to the floor instructed. Pick up the phone at the booth your assigned to and talk via phone/with glass between you.

JM: How long did check-in process take?
Visitor: 5-10 minutes depending on how many visitors are there, or other people entering the facility.
Liza: it coukd be from 5 minutes to 30 mins depending on when you arrived

JM: Were the guards accommodating?
Visitor: Very, They are professional and very helpful if you have questions. Except for one time when calling the booking area. The person who answered was smacking gum as she spoke and replied with "I dont know" when asked specific questions. She was very lethargic, but every other staff member contacted was professional.
Liza: some guards are very nice but than other are just rude and some tend to yell at inmates and visitors

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Visitor: Concrete, air conditions works in the entrance, but in the visiting booths its a little warm, and if there are other people talking its hard to hear over the phone due to the echos from other peoples conversations. Its a small area so if someone in there doesnt have the greatest hygiene your stuck with the smell.
Liza: hot and it humid and its horrible, the dirty looks and treatment you receive by some guards other visitor are very nice and helpful if needed, im not saying all guards are rude and mean just some of them, and they know who they are

JM: How long was your visit? Did the guards ever allow you to take extra time?
Visitor: 30-45 minutes. Yes they allowed a longer visit (briefly) due to coming from out of state.
Liza: sometimes we get a long visit again dependeing on how many visitors are waiting and which guard you have that night

JM: What was the parking situation like?
Visitor: Parking structure need quarters. 1 quarter is for 1 hr 15 minutes. Your normally there for 1 hr after filling out visiting request and the actual visit.
Liza: no parking during the week day weedend theres always somewhere to park

JM: What advice would you offer to somebody who is going to visit an inmate in this jail?
Visitor: Carry little possessions/remove jewelry so as not to set off metal detectors. Wear socks so your not standing on the dirt floor when you remove your shoes to go through the metal detector. Have quarters to lock your purse/cell phone up. Have current ID, and be nice to the staff they are doing their job.
Liza: dont take to heart how some of the guards treat you , its just because they are unhappy and miserable people ,doesnt have to effect you visit make the most out of it because its all the inmates have to look forward to .
