JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? Hillary: When you are let out into the main area. There
are not enough phones. There are always lines
for phones, always at least a 30 minute wait. Tye: during regular day room hours - yes Eva: yes u do have access to phones when u have pod time
u can purchase calling cards on canteen for those
that can't call collect to freinds and family
however if u have no money these cards can not be
purchased Richard: Yea, but they are so garbage, the phone will
just cut your phone call randomly then you gotta
pay another 2.50 for a connecting fee. you can
only call out and you buy 40minutes phone cards
for $21.50 Victor: When the phones were working. In Alpha 3 i hand
to stand in line to use the phone.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls? Hillary: The person you are calling has to have an
account set up on their phone. $25, $50 or $100
increments. 15 minutes was 4 or 5 dollars. Tye: some inmates would spend up to 30 -40 bucks a week
on phone calls - all charged Eva: the charges on prepaid calls are 4.25 however a
collect call could cost up to 15.00 per call
depending on time of day and where u r calling.
an average person calling home 3 times a week would
spend anywhere from 15-50 dollars on phone calls Richard: Varies, inmates can spend 5min-10hours, some
inmates spend atleast $1000 on their phone time
by the time they leave the facility, the minimum
price to use the phone is 50cents a minute and
thats if you buy the 21.50$ phone card Victor: Minimum $20 per week. Each one of my calls home
cost about 9 dollars. Why is it so expensive?
It even costs to cancel the prepaid plan.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? Hillary: You could buy a prepaid card from commissary.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls? Hillary: Yes, I'm pretty sure they monitor all the
calls. Tye: yup they sure did - all of them Eva: yes there are times the system would even disconnect
saying a 3way call was being attempted when in
actuality it was a click in their system Richard: Yes they sure did, infact they had a sign
stating thats exactly what happens Victor: yes. every call. there was an announcement on
each call saying so.
