Closing Advice

Interview with Ryan, Angel, Dale and Peter

JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail?
Ryan: They need to watch out for Deputy Wiggins. Watch her actions, the way she treats guys. She treats white guys better than black guys and she is black. She tased a guy with 10,000 volts in the shower because she thought he was jacking off. I have complained about how she treats inmates, but was told I need more proof. So watch her and report if you see her treating inmates badly.
Angel: Most of the time you are hungry they barely give u enough that you don't starve so commissary is appreciated and a pair of socks is high demand people will steal and guards will tell you they can't prove it
Dale: To just stick it out with them. Visit and give them encouragement with letters and books. Mail means alot in a place like that. Also visits. But really just keep them motivated and put it in there head they can overcome and they just made a mistake.
Peter: Make sure they take their whites and if they can put money on their books they should so they can at least make phone calls and order hygienes from commissary.

JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them?
Ryan: Stay to yourself. If you don't know nobody in there, don't try to make friends. Don't go finding friends, let the friends come to you.
Angel: Don't talk back to no matter how much verbal abuse you take
Dale: Stay away from the Drama. Hang with 1 person in your same situation that is trustworthy. Don't gamble or break rules. Don't tell on no one either. No one likes a tattle-tell. It's never going to benefit you. Just keep to your self and read alot. Exercise also.
Peter: Just to do their time alone and not think that they have any friends in jail. That is the best way to stay out of trouble and get your days.

JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to.
Ryan: Sarasota Jail, but was bailed out in 3 hours.
Angel: Sarasota county jail
Dale: Tomoka Correction Facility, Orlando Reception Center, Transition House of Tarpon, Sarasota County Jail
Peter: Sarasota County Hillsborough County (Falkenburg & orient rd)
