Interview with Emily, Kelly, Bill, Katrina, Billy and Cory
JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail? Emily: yes jail its not a place for women nor men but
if you want to avoid from going there find you
something constructive to do with your life such
as taking a trade reading getting a new set of
friends because you got to share and you got
officers watching you all day and night its no
privacy at all Kelly: At times we were able to order products from the commissary
but I had no money so I got the indigent kit which included
paper and stamps to mail letters a ink pen and basic supplies.
Other inmates who had cash on hand were able to order face
cream, cookies, assorted candy bars, stamps, paper and a list of
items. We had one day a week to place our orders and then they
came a couple of hours later. The form had to be completely
filled out with no mistakes. You also had to fill out paper forms
to see the doctor, dentist, chaplain. Generally when you placed a
request you were able to be seen by whomever you desired by
the next day. In many ways the jail is run very efficiently. Bill: Try to stay in contact as best you can or as
much as allowed. it is very difficult if someone
is not familiar with the process. Katrina: Don't go to jail I wouldn't wish jail on my worse enemy they
issue you used and recycled underwear its nasty don't touch
nothing at all they don't give you nothing to clean with Billy: I would like them to know that its not all that great. If you have
a lot time or no bond then keep your love ones positive and let
them know that you will be by there side if you can. Cory: the staff displays uncaring attitudes, some of
them, I find them to be very unhelpful and
controlling. when you are trying to get out on
bond, they will not supply you with any
information and will not allow you to use the
phone until they get ready.
JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them? Emily: just hold your head up it seems once we get in
trouble we tend to find the man above we should
have thought about God before we got ourselves
in to the trouble once you out dont look back
and dont go back look ahead and forward get in
church if you cant make it to church let church
be in you and thank him for your daylight and
family Kelly: If a friend I knew was going to jail I would tell them to try to
keep their watch as you never know the time. I would tell them
to be patient and try to meet someone they could enjoy
spending time with. It is a rough place to be but with faith you
live thru it. Any future inmate I would tell to follow all of the
rules as you do not want to be locked down and to not fight with
other inmates but to try to be pleasant and patient. Bill: Be polite, and respect the corrections officers. Katrina: Be very careful because people who have serious health
conditions like aids could be your roommate and you won't
even know it just leave the jail with what you came in with
nothing Billy: The advice i would give is to stay positive, try not to get unto
any fight if you can help it. Start reading the bible for guidance
and prayer. Be strong and hold on. Cory: to try to remain humble and do as you are told to
do. Follow the rules, and don't get involved
with the wrong kind of people. and your time
will be up quickly.
JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to. Katrina: None Billy: No other jails Cory: coffee county jail.
