Inmates

Interview with Emily, Kelly, Bill, Leroy, Katrina, Billy and Cory

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Emily: no not really I was just ready to get out of there because of the children I had waiting on me and It made me think more why did I not think about what I done before and I wouldnt be in this I did it to myself and learned a lesson
Kelly: The other inmates were easy to get along with. I feel I made some friends. Some, however were mentally ill and more difficult to be with.
Bill: Not at all. the other inmates were very sympathetic to what had happened, and THEY kept me informed on what was going on within the jail.
Leroy: No I did not find it difficult to get along with the other inmates. To me it seemed more like every one just was to
Katrina: Yes it was difficult getting along with the inmates that came in that we're on drugs because they argue and act out when they are going thru withdrawal because they want they drugs
Billy: Yes i found it hard because the other inmate were mad because they could be a helper. I was a helper in the kitchen to give out trays to inmate. They were getting mad cause i wouldnt give them a extra tray
Cory: I basically stayed to myself, so I would not start trouble or be involved in trouble. If contrabands are found, then the whole dorm is in trouble unless they found it in a certain room.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Emily: when it came to chow time and the bathroom I lost my temper a lot and that made it worser where the judge gave me more time
Kelly: I basically would walk away when an argument was taking place. There were some arguments about television shows or food. I gave a lot of my food to other inmates to make friends.
Bill: nothing
Katrina: Do not borrow or receive commissary from other inmates do not go in other inmates room do not discuss nobody's charges do not gamble just basically stay to your self don't get in nobody's business don't try to break up nobody's fights stay in your room it's the safest thing to do
Billy: The types of things you would have to worry about is inmates making homemade weapons to hurt you.Watch your back. Try to mind your own business. Watch your food your order and on your plate because they will try to take it off your tray. Your food in your room also because they will steal it
Cory: you have to remain humble and be on your p's and q's at all time. Sometimes if someone say something you dislike, you press it away, in order not to fight and go to the hole for 5-7 days. If there was a problem with changing the tv, you just say "my bad" and " I won't do it again"

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Emily: no
Kelly: I was not able to choose my inmate even if I desired.
Bill: No
Katrina: No you can not choose any inmate to be your cell mate it would be better if you could but my cell mates changed at least twice a week every other day
Billy: No.When ever a inmate goes home there always was going to be another one in your cell within a hour. They dont waste time putting someone in your cell. You might change inmate 4 or 5 times a day
Cory: I was not able to choose an cellmate. Whenever the cellmate get out, sent to prison, or whatever, you get another cellmate. They put whoever they see fit in your room. You have to have a legitmate reason to ask to be moved out of a room.
