JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Greg: I was only able to go to the shower rooms, outside
rec area, and cells to visit other inmates. I never
got to see or offered a library or kitchen or play
room or weight room like i seen on tv shows. It was
really quite boring with nothing to do. Tyler: law library, Chess games, checkers games, store
call, recreational room, television and to get a
hair cut. Some things are hard to do though cause
people want to hog some activities and not let
anyone else play with them so sometimes it might
cause an argument. I just recommend staying out
of jail
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Greg: The only entertainment i had avaliable was the 6
inch television located at the top of the
recreation room, which the channels had to be
changed with a broom stick. And you only watched
what everyone else was watching. And sometimes the
guards would turn it off at night. Making it quiet
at night, some people can';t sleep in that kind of
quietness. Tyler: I did have regular access to chess checker and
the tv or phones. Sometimes people like to hog
one or the other but a simple I would like to
play usually worked. I am slightly on the bigger
side being 6ft 215lbs though so people usually
didn't argue with my but I am no bully
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Greg: Not really, only 3 SMALL meals a day. There was not
a weight room but i walked around the blocks. Tyler: not really I just stayed away from the bread and
sweets and made sure I worked out daily with push
ups pull ups and I did a lot of calisthenics to
try and keep in shape
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Greg: I was able to go out side everyday if we were all
being good. Nothing to do outside, there was a
basket ball goal but no balls. And if we couldn't go
outside then i just walked inside. Tyler: Never for to go outside. Lowndes county jail is
very bad about giving yard call to inmates they
do have a recreation room that has a window in it
though but we still only went one time while I
was there and I had to ask to go
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Greg: No church services were offered to me or my
cellmates. I don't think they had one in the jail
though? Tyler: no they did not but sometimes ministers would
come out and do a bible study but they would only
go to certain cell blocks and mine was not one of
them
