Interview with Jennifer, Robert, Kathleen, Holly, Damon and Wade
JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior? Jennifer: I didnt get off early for good behavoir. I was
in there the whole time. I'm currently on home
detention for a year and will remain on home
detention for the whole year. Robert: i didnt get out early for good behavior because
i appealed and judges decsion on putting me
there in the first place.
Kathleen: Yes I originally had a 90 day sentence but it got reduced to
57 for good behavior and working days. Holly: yes I got off early based on good behavior and double bunking. Damon: no , I got off because I took a plea deal Wade: I was released upon arrest after only a few hours
due to being a drunken non-combative 19 year old.
On my VOP incarceration I was initially given no
Bail but as it was realized that the charges
against me were incorrect I was released late in
the day.
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior? Jennifer: out of 1 year in jail you could do up to 7-8
months and you dont have to do the rest of it. Robert: you get 5 days off every month for good behavior
the more programs you get in rolled in the more
time you get off of. Kathleen: 5-10 days a month for good behavior Holly: I think it was 3 days off of a month. Damon: im not sure the exact years. Wade: None, due to a probation before judgement charge
for me. In general though, approximately half the
given sentence must be served in MD before an
inmate is released.
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior? Jennifer: To get time off you can go to class, do the drug
program, and meetings. somebody that would lose
there good time would have to get into a fight,
get put on lock-up or starting alot of problems
for other inmates and the grauds Robert: you need to aviod getting other charges, drugs
fighting and not following orders in order to
get time off of your sentence if you do that you
should be fine.` Kathleen: You had to avoid trouble whatever could get you put on lock
up and if you were found guilty got your good days taken
away from you. If you had a job and you lost it your days
were taken away. I've witnessed people loose days because
of fights . Holly: You need to avoid fighting getting into it with guards.not following
the rules no I didn't witness anyone losing there time off for good
behavior. Damon: in order to get good behavior , you have to show
that your time in jail is rehabilitating you and
that you will be able to be re-enter society. Wade: This comment, as well as many below will not come
from personal experience as I only served a day,
but from the many interviews I have done with the
felons and or gang members I have interviewed as a
reporter for a baltimore crime website. Initially,
good behavior is the most important requirement
for receiving good reviews by the parole bored.
Another method used by a certain percentage of
convicts is to become an informant. Becoming an
informant can reduce jail/prison time greatly, but
can also result in violent backlash against not
only the "snitch" but against his family and
friends. I have no recount of people getting good
release during my incarceration.
