Interview with Cyle, Caesar, Liz, Samuel, Nick and Teresa
JM: How many different blocks were there? Cyle: I don't know. Caesar: They are called pods. I was in the new jail.
Once i became a trustee i was put in the
barracks. Liz: quite a few Samuel: Pods, barracks , a and b side Nick: im not sure probably 30 cells, and about 2 big cells
for general population Teresa: I am not sure to give a number but this was a medium
sized jail so probably not too many.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Cyle: - Liz: alphabetical Nick: no names, i guess waiting cells until you get to the
big cell with all the other guys Teresa: From what i remember there were cells labeled as A
BLOCK, B BLOCK, etc. They were usually the holding
cells, but they do have them divided up in such a
way as one section or floor for violent offenders
and one for non violent offenders or one section for
major crimes and one for minor crimes.
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Cyle: - Liz: it was mixed up Samuel: Low sercurity is the barracks a and b side for worse offenders Nick: there was a cell for people who behaved bad and its
a very very small room i hear with one hole to use
the bathroom in, there is no light Teresa: In one set of blocks were inmates serving longer
sentences more than likely for felony offenses and
other sections were for inmates serving shorter
sentences perhaps for misdemeanor offenses. There
were special cells or blocks for inmates awaiting
transfer.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Cyle: There were no nice things about them, and the
worst being that they were cold as hell and very
loud. It was very hard to sleep. Caesar: I was in one of the new pods. It held 44
inmates. It had 2 tvs. It also had a side room
w/ a ps2 in it. 6 toilet, 4 showers. It also
had a rec area, to play handball and smoke.
Once i was a trustee, i went to the barracks.
Held up to 24 ppl. 1 T.v. No rec area, ppl
smoked in the building. 3 toilets, 2 showers. Liz: i was in d block and you get to walk outside on a
walkway every time you leave the barracks since
its not attached, you have a tv, microwave,
smoking, lighter, and there are less bunks in the
barracks Samuel: Barracks have cable xbox and microwave Nick: there is no nice parts, its all bad and dirty. Very
easy to get sick because it is so dirty in every
place there is there, there is nothing good to
report bad people rude guards, dirty place, share
the toilet and share the water fountain with
everyone else. it was gross. Teresa: I remember the nicest part of denton county
correctional center was that you were allowed to
smoke which I understand since the last time I was
there you can no longer do. The worst parts was
how dirty the blocks stayed and having to take a
shower and use the bathroom in front of other
inmates in a dirty shower.
