Interview with Bruce, Jen, Crystal, Allison and Deanne
JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? Bruce: Yes, but if you had any, they had to be kept in
lockers by the guard office and you would have to go
through them to get them if you needed them. Jen: If you took meds you would go in a morning and
evening line to meds Crystal: Yes but they were locked up Allison: Yes I took meds . Deanne: No the nurses did, and medicine was always given
at scheduled times.
JM: How did you get your medications? Bruce: I never had to get any medications, but for the
inmates who did, you had to go to the guard office
and have them get whatever you had to get Jen: If you took meds you would go in a morning and
evening line to meds and meds had to be preorder by
physician from jail Crystal: They had "med-check" twice a day, morning and night. They would
announce this to the yard then you had to go line up near the
entrence and you would be allowed to open your med locker one
at a time. Allison: A nurce gives them too you and you keep
them at ubed and are supposed to take
them ur self Deanne: Not applicable. I did not have any medications
that I needed to take while I was in the Maricopa
Tent City Jail.
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this? Bruce: I never witnessed any abuse, but would imagine that
the offender would be rolled out of the work release
program and sent to the tents where they were kept
there 24 hours a day and not being allowed to leave
for any reason. Jen: If a person was caught with drugs or anything they
weren;t allowed to have they would roll that inmate
to the hole for a duration of time Crystal: If you abused illegal drugs you were immediately taken off work
release was stopped and you needed to deal with the new charges.
If people were sharing prescription drugs I never witnessed this
but I assume a similar repercussion would apply. Allison: Abuse of ur meds I never did this but I
suppose they would take them away
from u if u abuse Deanne: Not applicable because I never witnessed anyone
trying to abuse drugs, so therefore I never saw
anyone being punished for the abuse of drugs.
