JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Matthew: In my DUI ordeal, I did get placed with about 30
other inmates. Many were there for petty charges,
as was I, and many were friendly. Having other
people with you in your dorm actually made the
time go by faster. It kept the stress of being in
jail down to a minimum, most of the time. Michelle: not to much. there was one or two girls i didn't
care for and we sometimes got on eachothers
nerves. i was in a med-hi unit where there is at
the most 12 girls. plus they are much smaller
units. so it is bond to happen sooner or later,
with us already being a higher risk, in such a
small unit, day after day that we are not always
going to get along. Art: No..everyone for the most part has respect for eachother if not
there will be conflicts that do get resolved the correct way if
not then politics will take part just like it does in the freeworld
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Matthew: Fights were never really an issue. There was only
one fight with an inmate and a guard while I was
there for 2 weeks. However, It was best not to
offend any of them, or say comments that could be
offensive. Many of the inmates were gang-oriented.
I pretty much kept my comments to myself and just
used small talk to keep busy. Michelle: i didn't really have to do anything in
particular. i sat with the same 4-6 girls at our
table everyday and played spaydes and watched
t.v. or would go to my room and read or sleep.
the couple little disputes i did have with other
females came and went easily Art: Have to avoid getting into debt owing people what you say
words that are said and also eavsedropping on
conversations.do not steal sbe racist sharing food or anything
where you sit when you eat...your paperwork has to be aboe
to read if someone requests your work...cant hide anything
bout your case
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Matthew: We never really had cellmates. I was placed in a
dorm. An open area room with bunks lining the
walls. So basically I had 30+ cellmates. We were
assigned our bunks, so there was no choice with
who got the top or bottom. Cellmates would come
and go though. Most inmates didnt stay very long
and were released. Michelle: no. you got who they stuck you with. the last
bunkie i had there was with me for like 3
months. that's actually a good amount of time
for in there. usually before that one of you
would leave or if you started getting on
eachothers nerves classification would separate
you. but no, no getting to choose. Art: You choose nothing in jail..no inmates not what you eat not
what you do....the only thing you choose when your behind the
bars is to be happy or to be sad..
