JM: How often could you receive visitors? Matthew: About once or twice a day. Visiting days and hours
were on saturdays and by appointment on weekdays.
It just depended on how many people came to see
you and made appointments. If 4 people made
appointments within visiting hours, then you could
see all 4. Michelle: on our unit we could have 1 visit a week for an
hour. we could also request visits from various
religous groups that were already pre-approved Art: 2 times a wek on low risk med and high risk is once a week
and the inmate has to request the visit
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Matthew: Extremely. You had to have made a phone call to
the jail first to set up the appointed hour you
would be visiting. Then when you come, you are
assigned a locker to put your stuff in and are
checked for weapons; as well as drugs and
contraband. You fill out waivers to release the
jail from liability. Michelle: usually no. they only reqire them to be there 15
min. before the scheduled visit time to get
there visitor badge and go through the medal
detector Art: Yes they have to get their i d s turned in and valid make sure
no warrents probation or any hold then they have to sign n and
pat downs and such
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Matthew: After check-in at the front, You were escorted one
by one to the visiting area. There were glass
separators, with just a single steel bar stool in
front of the window. It was very confining, for
just being a visitor. I have been on both sides of
that glass and either way it still feels the same.
You spoke through a two way phone that was also
being monitored by the jail. It was a very cold
atmosphere as a visitor. Nothing but steal, glass,
and concrete brick surrounding you. Not very
friendly, but it worked for just the 10 to 20
minutes allowed for visiting. Michelle: there are rows of seats with phones that you
talk through and you can see the person only
through plexy glass. the only people who can set
up semi-contact or full-contact visits are
lawyers, law enforcement, and probation
officers. other than that everyone else was 100%
though plexy glass only Art: Simple glass wall and their on one side im on the other and yu
speak through a phone and its only an hour non contact
visits....they are all cloaely monitored and regulated,,,cant be
on lockdown to recieve a. Visit and they must schedule 24
hours in advance no more or no less
