Meals

Interview with Matthew, Michelle and Art

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Matthew: 3 meals per day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Michelle: you get 3 meals a day. two hot and one cold, which is sandwiches everyday for lunch.
Art: Simple breakast lunch and dinner thats it

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Matthew: I worked in the kitchen so the food was way better than what we were actually serving to the inmates. We were allowed to make our own food in the kitchen. Other than that, it was fair to mediocre. They used meat substitutes and processed food which was disgusting at times. The consistancy of some of the food, such as the eggs and potatoes, were horrible. eggs were runny, potatoes were dehydrated and powered.
Michelle: some of it wasn't bad, some was just edible and some are just aweful. it has no taste. some of the "meat" dishes are not even real meat. the food is usually always cold when you get it and a lot of times there isn't enought there to keep you satisfied through the next long stretch.
Art: Really i would rate the yuma county jail food much better than sme other jails such as ldurango..they nly srve 2 meals..yuma count takes some pride in their food process and feeding the inmates..the inmaes di work in the kitchen as well and are treatsd quite wrll...they serve coffee too.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Matthew: My favorite meals were lunch, working in the kitchen. We were allowed to make carne asada, chicken, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Lease favorite was breakfast, it was the most disgusting meal of the day.
Michelle: some of my favorites were the biscuits and gravy, the pizza, hamburgers, and chili. but i also had it very doctored up with stuff i ordered off comminsary. my least favorite was turkey rice, turkey noodle, mexican plate, and the mached potatoes.
Art: I hate pretty much all meals when im detained,,,but you have to eat if i had a favorite meal it woukd be pizza

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Matthew: There was no snack time, unless you had bought snacks and side meals from commissary every week. Each week, you were allowed to purchase food and nessesities from a catalogue of items available. It wasnt really expensive but it required that money be put on your books in order to purchase.
Michelle: no snacks outside of meals. comminsary was okay. there was a one page list of stuff to choose from. it was a little on the pricy side though when it came to certain items, but that mostly applied to the hygiene
Art: Yes there is commissary but the prices are always going up..simple list for comm,...you could order once a week commissary...put it this way soups are over a dollar right now and they are making money ioff that comm
