Inmates

Interview with Erik and Clayton

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Erik: No. This jail has less violent inmates than Solano. A lot of people were there for DUI's and domestic disputes.
Clayton: No. I let people know I wasn't scared.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Erik: I am older and can get along with people pretty well.
Clayton: I let people know I wasn't scared and had been around the block before. I was in the minority. I was the only black person. Be a man, don't let anyone do anything to you (show some resistance), mind your own business.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Erik: No
Clayton: Not really. Due to the fact that I was the only non white person there at this time, they asked my cellmate if he was ok with me, and he was a hippie kid and he was.
