JM: How many different blocks were there? Erik: There were 2 floors. Clayton: I think I remember at least 5. There might have
been more. They also had an outdoor rec area and
an indoor rec area.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Erik: The shoe, east and west blocks, dorm living. Clayton: I think they were named...I have no idea what
they were. I can't remember.
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Erik: The shoe is segregated from the rest of the
jail, and this is where the violent and sex
offenders are housed. They are locked down for
23 or 24 hours a day. The rest of the jail is
sectioned off into the east and west sides.
Sentenced inmates live in kicked back dorm
living area. Clayton: Most of the guys in our area were in for
something that would be 1 year or less, then
there were mid level guys and then there was a
high security area. I knew where others were
but I didn't get anywhere near them.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Erik: Dorm living area was the nicest part of the
jail. It was
more laid back. It was the sentenced dorm.
They had ping pong, table tennis and rented
movies
every night. Good living for jail. Napa Jail is
privately owned by Mormons. It's more clean
than other jails.
Clayton: It seemed like that maybe the middle level guys
that were looking at 5 to 20-30 years had a
little bit cleaner area and the officers treated
them a little better. Their clothing was
better, they had better visiting conditions,
etc.
