JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Erik: The dorm living, as I mentioned before, has ping
pong, table tennis and rented movies every
night. On the unsentenced side, they have some
books on the block.
I'm not sure how the "shoe" gets their books.
Each section includes a couple tv rooms on each
side. Clayton: They had academic classes, recovery (NA and
AA). Every once in a while, inmates would set
up a little card or chess tournament. There
were TV's. They also had books, but they
didn't have a regular routine for passing around
the books.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Erik: You have to compromise on what will be on the TV. Clayton: We would get books every two months or so. With
the TV, they would usually let the majority
choose what we would watch.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Erik: No, you get yard every day when you're out of
your cell. Clayton: Not really, because I am a fitness freak so I
worked out a lot while I was there.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Erik: Every day. Clayton: Oh yea, at least once a week, sometimes twice.
They had an inside rec area and outside rec
area.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Erik: Yes, they have bible study once a week I think. Clayton: They had it once a week and then also on Sundays
they had Catholic, Baptist and basic Christian
services.
