Interview with Kyle, Randy, Tyler, Dave and Melissa
JM: How often could you receive visitors? Kyle: Minimum 3 visits a week
Medium 2 visits a week
DOC - 1
Segregation - 0
Each visit was between glass and lasted about 45
minutes Randy: IT DEPENDED ON YOUR LEVEL. IF YOU WERE MEDIUM,
IT WOULD BE 3 TIMES A WEEK BUT AS A LOW LEVEL,
COULD BE DAILY Tyler: I didn't get any vistors in the 5 days that I
was there so I can't answer that question. Dave: DEPENDING ON YOUR CUSTODY LEVEL, IT COULD BE 3
TIMES A WEEK OR EVERYDAY IF YOU WANTED. Melissa: 3 times per week.
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Kyle: The first time they came it would take about an
hour to be put on
record. After that when they would return it was
maybe 15 minutes. Randy: IT WAS NOT A BAD PROCESS AT ALL AND PROBABLY ONE
OF THE EASIEST AND BEST AROUND AS THERE WERE NO
PRE-APPROVAL PROCESSES OR APPOINTMENTS. Tyler: I only saw attorneys in the vistors area and I
really have no idea what the went through to get
in to see their client. Dave: THIS JAIL HAD THE EASIEST OF VISIT CHECK IN THAT I
KNOW OF AS YOU JUST HAD TO GIVE YOUR ID, AND GO
IN. YOU DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS ETC. Melissa: No, it was simple and quick.
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Kyle: A small room of 7 phones on one side for the
inmates looking
through the thick scratched glass to the
visitors on the other. The
phones had short cords which were uncomfortable.
The phones
themselves often crackled from bad quality or
being monitored. The
visitors side was always crowded and loud with
kids screaming. Randy: IT WAS BEHIND GLASS TALKING ON A TELEPHONE
ACCESSED OFF EACH SECTION OF THE JAIL. THE
PHONES WERE SOMETIMES NOT GOOD AS IT WAS HARD TO
HEAR BUT THEY WERE FAIRLY OPEN ABOUT SWITCHING
YOU TO ANOTHER IF IT WAS NOT CROWDED. IT WAS 20
MINUTE VISITS PER PERSON AND DECENT. Tyler: From what I could see it was a inclosed area
away from the other inmates with a sheriff
listening in to all conversations. None that I
could tell were interrupted at any time and as I
said it seemed to be only attorneys that I
noticed. They were in suits so I assumed they
were their attorney Dave: THE VISITING ENVIRONMENT WAS IN SMALL SECTIONED
AREAS AND WAS BEHIND GLASS WHILE TALKING OVER A
TELEPHONE. IT COULD BE A LITTLE NOISY AND THE
PHONES SOMETIMES DID NOT WORK BUT IF IT WAS NOT
BUSY THEY WERE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT ALLOWING YOU TO
SWITCH TO A WORKING PHONE FOR THE VISIT Melissa: Glass with a phone to talk. There are chairs for you and for your
visitor. The phones aren't always clear, sounds like they are
listening in, and you have to hold the cords to not hear static.
For "Professional Visits" from lawyers etc, you are buzzed out and
go downstairs to special visiting rooms with closed doors. You will
be strip searched before and after these visits.
