Pre-sentencing

Interview with Ron, mike and Brian

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Ron: THERE WAS NO ACTUAL PRE SENTENCING PROCESS AS I WAS HELD AND SPENT TIME IN THE FACILITY PRIOR TO MY SENTENCING. HOWEVER THOUGH I WAS TREATED AGGRESSIVELY AND DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE CHARGES. I WAS APPOINTED A COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEY BUT THAT PERSON WAS ALSO RUDE AND SEEMED TO BE IN ANOTHER STATE OF MIND!!!! I MEAN HE WAS NOT PREPARED AND DID NOT SEEM TO KNOW THE ACTUAL LAWS ALL THAT MUCH. FURTHERMORE HE SEEMED TO SIDE WITH THE COURT ON ALL DECISIONS REGARDING THE CASE.
mike: Before i was sentenced my court date was pushed back about 4-5 times. I didnt get to see a judge for anything other than a bond hearing.
Brian: Pre-sentencing or 1st appearance was held via a live Television monitor.Inmates were fully chained up, until called in front of the television monitor to speak with the judge and to learn any bond amounts of any. Some cases are able to be handled the same day, if the prisoner is not already under jurisdiction of another judge.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Ron: YES THE POLICE STOPPED MY HOUSE OR THE HOUSE I WAS VISITING AT THE TIME AND THEY WERE DANGEROUS. THEY WERE CARRYING HIGH POWERED GUNS AND WERE HOLDING THE GUNS ALMOST AS IF LIKE THEY WERE LOOKING FOR A REASON TO USE THEM. ONE OF THE OFFICERS APPROACHED ME AND BECAME QUITE OFFENSIVE!!!
mike: No, I was arrested off the street.
Brian: The police were called out to my home in middleburg for a domestic violence call. I was heavily intoxicated and gave the police a hard time. I did not want them to mediate in my home. Upon opening the door I advised them to leave my home. I later slammed the door in their face. After I went back to my bedroom, I learned that the police had reentered my home. I was shot in the back with a tasered and handcuffed. The put me in the back of the police car and sent my off to jail.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Ron: THE COURT APPEARANCE WAS LIKE A PARTY/CIRCUS AFFECT TYPE ATMOSPHERE.
mike: It was everything i was hoping for the DA droped my felony to a misdamenor and i was released.
Brian: From my recollection, I was given a bond amount and a chance to speak with a public defender. I sat in jail for about 2 weeks before my court appearance. Upon attending my court date, I had made a deal with the state. They offered me 60 days, and I negotiated 45 days with the time I was already incarcerated. After my court date...I finished my remaining 30 days.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Brian: Original charges were domestic violence. I was charged and convicted of simple battery.
