Meals

Interview with Jim and Jerry

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Jim: 3
Jerry: 3, one hot meal a day

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Jim: it was not the best but for jail i guess not back maybe a 7 outta ten
Jerry: Terrible and not sufficient for a grown man. Breakfast was a 1/2 cup of dry cereal or cold biscuit, a miniature apple or orange and a child size milk. Lunch was sometimes a bologna sandwich, one piece and two pieces of bread, hard beans or mushy noodles and dinner was always mushy pasta, beans or rice, except hotdogs once a week.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Jim: no i ate it all
Jerry: I looked forward to any protein because I lost 12 pounds within 2 weeks of getting there. I started 6'2" 195 pounds

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Jim: you could buy cominsarry
Jerry: Commissary was very limited in my block. Honeybees cost $1.70. A package of nuts was $2.00 and that was the only protein offered. It costs $6 for my family to send a minimum of $25, so for $32 I didn't get much
