JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Karl: A library and that's about it. And a gym with
weight machine and a basketball hoop. No TV. Willie: THey had a heavy bag in the gym which I really liked because I like
boxing on the outside. There are excercise bikes in the gym as well
and a sit up bench. Also a handball court in the gym and basketball
hoop. And basketball and handball outside in the yard which is
shared by other blocks as well.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Karl: The gym was always packed. You couldn't get on
those machines. Willie: No there was no tvs at all unless you were in CWP.
Terrible place to do time. The only entertainment was porn
magazines which were actually allowed (except for penetration in
the pornographic images, that was not allowed)
The best thing you can do is get subscriptions to your favorite
magazines.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Karl: I only did pushups in my cell. Willie: yes. I had a very hard time staying in shape because i was vegan
going in and they always messed up my meals so i had bad
nutrition.
When i am out i have a six pack and i go to the gym regularly, so i
know it was because of the jail.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Karl: Once a day for a hour. It was just a yard with a
track to walk around on. Willie: We were allowed to go outside every day. There were two types of
yards. The box yard, which was just a box, nothing in it. and there
was the yard with the basketball court and handball court.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Karl: Yes, they had them in cafeteria but I never went
because I'm an atheist. Willie: yes, there would be a chaplan that would visit us and we could talk
to him but there was no chapel we would visit.
