Interview with Karl and Willie

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Karl: They had 4 payphones that they let you use twice a day for an hour. And it was 800 people in there trying to use those phones so you really didn't get to make many calls.
Willie: Yes, but they are very expensive.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Karl: My mom got a $300 a month for once a week call. It was like $20 for the original connection and then charges for each minute after that.
Willie: It costs 15$ a call unless the person recieving the call gets a phone card then they save some money. Id say about 70$ a week on calls alone ubless their people get phone cards the about 40$ a week. This jail is terrible and is to be avoided.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Karl: No, not that I knew of.
Willie: No, but it is reccomended as it gets very expensive without one.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Karl: Yes everything was screened except with calls to your lawyer.
Willie: Not really, but they said they did. The COs were generally bad at their jobs.
