Interview with John, Scott, Aaron, Bruce and Sammy
JM: How often could you receive visitors? John: You could receive visitors three times a
week. And lawyer visits didnt count in
that. Scott: WE COULD RECEIVE VISITORS THREE
TIMES A WEEK UNLESS THEY ALLOW
OTHER VISITS. LAWYER VISITS DONT
COUNT. Aaron: twice a week for an hour it wasn't really great I
mean it was good but we were behind glass and we
could barely hear our loved ones on the phones in
the vistor room. Bruce: We were able to receive visitors Three
times a week. Lawyer visits were not
included. Sammy: We were able to get our visits atleast
Three times a,week and that is up to 5
visitors
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? John: Yes it was a bit lengthy and to some
people they even gave them a hard time
about what they were wearing resulting
in them not being able to visit an inmate
that day. Scott: YEA THE CHECK-IN PROCESS WAS
LENGTHY. THEY MAKE YOUR VISITORS
WAIT IN A ROOM UNTIL THEY CALL YOU
FROM YOUR HOLDING BLOCK TO GO TO
THE VISITING ROOM. Aaron: my aunt said it was a little bit of a hassle
because she said they had to search her and have
her take out all her jewelry and she had to leave
everything in a locker. Bruce: Yes the check in processe was lengthy.
People had to wait,sign in,wait,get
called,get screened through the metal
detector and then they had to wait for
you to get to the visiting room. Sammy: yes to check in process was Lengthy they
make people wait forever it seems like.
have to wait until your name is called
and they have to wait to.
JM: What was the visiting environment like? John: The visiting enviorment was very
loud,flimsy plastic chairs,kids running
around bored really,some people were
emotional with there familys. The
correctional officers would be walking
around Looking at your visitors
sometimes even impolitely to a point it
could, set an inmate off. Even at times
they would make you wait Basically your
WHOLE hour to see your visit in what i
BELIEVE would be delays just to set that
inmate off. Scott: THE VISITING ENVIORNMENT WAS VERY
EMOTINAL. YOU HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH
OF PEOPLE WHO COME TO SEE THERE
LOVED ONE WHO IS LOCKED UP AD ITS
JUST A VERY ON EDGE FEELING TO BE IN
THAT ROOM. ITS SO LOUD AND
AGGRAVATING . THERE ARE TIMES YOU
CANT EVEN HERE YOUR VISIT TALKING
TO YOU.I Aaron: the environment was sad because we couldn't hold
our loved ones or touch them it was really
depressing because our loved ones had to sit
there and watch us behind glass and when they
cryed we couldn't hold them and confort them and
that makes us depressed. We should be able to at
least have a face to face visit it would so much
better for our mental states. Bruce: The visiting environment was sometimes
good. There we're,alot of times they
were bad maybe because of stress
between An inmate And his, visitors or
just because it was a bad,day for
someone. every time you go into
the, visting room and see someone from
the, outside alot of time that cab hurt An
inmate. Sammy: the the visiting environment was very
stressful and aggressive people were
often sad and crying because they miss
their love ones. at times they would be
kids running around. the guards always
looking at who comes to visit you. it's as
if you have no type of privacy at all
