JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Christian: Jobs. Activities such as basketball, handball,
cards, dominoes, books, TV. Claire: They have the day area and the Rec area. There
really is nothing to pass the time other than
reading books. The day room is shared between 2
different blocks and it rotates days. I read a
lot of books and I went to any functions that
they had available.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Christian: Watching TV was crazy because you could only watch
sports. You also couldn't watch anything that had
anything sexual or criminal in it. It had to be
wholesome. We went to bed at 9 or 10:00. Claire: There are 2 tvs in the day room and competition
is ridiculous. You have to practically Run to the
front of the tv in order to watch it, and the
volume is so low that you have to keep the
caption on so you can read the words. The
Correctional Officers will turn the tv off if
anyone talks while sitting in front of it.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Christian: Nope, I did pushups, pullups, handball and worked
a lot so I was never sitting down. Claire: YES, very hard time. The food they feed you is
all starch and there is not enough activity to
stay fit or healthy.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Christian: Never. Claire: No outside ever, you are actually locked down
16hours out of the day and the only exercise you
are allowed is going in the rec area, which is
normally crowded with all the inmates cause it is
the closest place for fresh air.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Christian: Yes, they had church services. Sundays and they
had bible study on Wed or something. Claire: Yes, they were held in the small rooms stationed
next to the correctional officers rotunda area.
They were pretty boring, not many people come to
them ever.
