Medications

Interview with Christian and Claire

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Christian: Yes. Everytime you tell them something is bothering you they call a nurse and the nurse will take care of you. I went to the dentist once while I was there. They don't give you painkillers if they are going to pull a tooth. They just pull it.
Claire: Yes, They will allow you to see the doctor, however they will deduct money from your books every time you need to see the doctor.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Christian: The nurse comes in and parks her cart. She would push it around with all the meds on it. She would check you off on the chart.
Claire: You go to the rotunda and request a nurse slip, you fill it out and you turn it into the nurse for her to add you to the doctors list and then if you need medication the doctor will prescribe the necessary meds and I believe they run about 5$

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Christian: They put you in the hole and add on to your time. It was hard to get drugs in jail. Most drug abuse happens with meds the nurse brings around.
Claire: The abuse of drugs will get you another case pending depending on what kind of drugs they are abusing. I have seen this happen to a women for sneaking crack cocaine inside the jail. She was immediately rebooked with new charges and taken into solitary confinement.
