Interview with CC, Kurt, Kimberly, Karen, Ben, John, Ashley and Michelle
JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? CC: payphones Kurt: Yes. There were 10 phones in each pod. Kimberly: There were 8 phones on wall which we could use
during day. They were turned off at lights out Karen: yes Ben: yes John: Yes crowded but if you caught one
open it was cool Ashley: no all the time only when allowed Michelle: Yes basically whenever it wasn't lock down
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls? CC: house phone to accept calls or buy a calling
card from commissary Kurt: A collect call from jail cost around $8 for
fifteen minutes. Kimberly: I don't know because I used pre paid cards Karen: 20.00 per week Ben: lets just say it was to exspensive John: It was ten cents a minute if i recall
could get expencive weekly nut it was
still high for local only calls Ashley: the rates were very high if you didn't have a
calling card so your family would be charged for
the call Michelle: Well it was local for me I used it twice a day at
$2.50 a call so about $35 a week
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? CC: no money Kurt: You could buy from $20 phone call from the
commisart which had calls in 3 minute blocks. Kimberly: The best was a $20 pre paid card that you could
get at the commissary. Karen: yes Ben: no John: No mostly just called collect Ashley: yes you did need phone cards Michelle: Yes if your family did not have collect calling
JM: Did the jail screen your calls? CC: yes Kurt: Absolutely. They would interupt your call with
recorded message, letting you know that every
single phone call was being recorded. Kimberly: Yes say they do. I know people who got into
trouble based on things they said over phone. Karen: ? Ben: they said they did but I am not sure John: Yes and during The call they reminded
you Ashley: I guess so I really don't know Michelle: They do record them I believe
