JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Nelson: TV was turned on 24/7. They also had cards. If
your tank was good you had UNO, Chess, Backgammon,
Yahtzee and Scrabble. If you act up they take
that stuff. Chris: NO recreation facilities only paying cards. YOu
could do sit ups and push up beside your bunk.
They had basketball in prison and a track that
you could run on in order to pass the time. YOu
could also play basketball if they were not on
lock down and everyone was good. Brad: Every one is different some people sleep their time
away some play cards read books personally i.liked to
work out it helped me relieve stress and build myself
up physically bdcause i knew i was going to prison this
sounds stupid but its important when itsba reality for
sure its hard
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Nelson: The main fights were over the TV and the cards. Chris: Tv room was for everyone. CO stuck it on one
channel and that was it. If you asked to change
the channel they would turn it off. It was like
you were another life form to these people and
you did not matter. They enjoyed controlling you
in every way. Brad: The only privided entertainment was a.small tv that
they kept on full blast at all times the tv was.important
to the block because not only was it your only access to
the outside world it was your clock as well. There is no
clock in the tank so you use the tv to keep track of time.
I witnessed more fight over this than anything else
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Nelson: Yes, because they are supposed to take you out 5
days a week, for at least an hour of exercise.
They don't take you out. You have got to exercise
on your own, wherever you at. Chris: Yes because your are under fed. I mean you can
work out but your body neats nutrition to
survive and be able to maintain Brad: No.. working out was.my number one thing i built
myself up to prepare for prison because i knew i
wasbgoing
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Nelson: Never. Chris: In prioson you go outside but not in the county
jails. They did not care if you ever see the
outsife of a jail or not. Brad: You were promised recreation in the inmate handbook
but at no time in my 10 month stay did i.leave the block
unless it was court time or visit time
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Nelson: You had to put in a call card to request church
services. I was told you could go every Sunday if
you put in a card. I never ever attended a
service even though I made the request a lot. Chris: In the prison and in county jail. This was
optional and most people just went for something
to do but their heart was not in it Brad: Church services were not offered due to security issues
but many inmates have there own services held
amongst themselves a lot
