JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? Nelson: Because of my condition, I needed medications. I
wanted them to see me and kept making requests,
and they kept brushing me off. To me, they really
didn't want to deal with it. I did get my
medicine, but I was having other problems that
they kept brushing me off. I sent a letter to my
attorney asking him to act on my behalf. After
awhile, writing a letter to my attorney helped
because I was seen by a nurse. They tried to make
it look like they were doing something. Chris: no ..they would let you have it if they thought
you needed it Brad: Yes it was always offered
JM: How did you get your medications? Nelson: The nurse came around and checked your armband,
then gave you the meds. You have to bring water
to the pill call line. Chris: They brought them to you from nurses station.
Sometimes you went to the nurses station on your
own if they didnt bring it to you Brad: They would bring a cart around for med call and give
ghenmeds to the inmates that had prescriptions only
them
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this? Nelson: I was told if they found it on you (illegal drugs)
that they would charge you with possession. I
never saw it happen. Chris: segragation...I have seen it happen. YOu could
lose all of your priviledges and then be left by
yourself in lockup Brad: Really if they got caught selling their meds they just
took them away from them and they didnt get them
back
