Telephones

Interview with Nelson, Chris and Brad

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Nelson: Yes. In the workhouse the phones stay on 24/7. You can get up and call whenever you want.
Chris: They have set telephone times you can make calls
Brad: Yes when they worked right

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Nelson: When I was there it was like $1.25 for I think 20 minutes.
Chris: Your family would have to put money at 25 dollar increments and you get one free call
Brad: Depends on the inmate some people have nobody but an average inmate spends about 15 dollars a.week

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Nelson: Somebody on the outside has to have some kind of credit or debit card and put money on there. Your family has to do all of it. If you don't have any family or someone to set it up, you can't make phone calls.
Chris: your family would have to put money on your account to make calls
Brad: No your people.were responsible for.setting up prepaid Account

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Nelson: Yes, they did. That messed me up. I had a pretty good case, and I told my family some of the details of what happened on the phone. It messed my case up because they recorded my phone calls.
Chris: yes, just about every other call you made
Brad: Yes all calls were screened
