JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Susan: Classes, I took as many as I could. the gym was
very small with hardly any equipment. I read
almost every damn book in the library. Tried to
go to the yard whwnever it was opened. I read
alot, I wrote a lot, I studied a lot. I even
tutored some people who were studying for their
GED.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Susan: (Minimum)Each room had only one TV with the
possibilty of 12 people to a room. The usual
was five or six in each room but there were
certainly fights over televisions, especially
during football season. Also there really wasnt
much of a dayroom in minimum so there were
always a tough time finding a place to plsy
cards or scrabble if the person you wanted to
play against was not in your room.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Susan: YES! I gained a total of 30 pounds over 6
years. I saw some women blow up like ticks in
there. The food choices were not very good.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Susan: They usually did let us outside, at least once a
day, weather premitting. The gym is very tint so
I tried to stick with things I could do inmy
room, like sqats, lunges and pushups.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Susan: They did offer two types. Catholic and Christian
Services. I am not either so I did not attend
either one.
