Telephones

Interview with Susan

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Susan: In medium the phone is on at 8:30am until 9:00pm In Minimum they consider it to be a "working building" so during the week they do not allow for regular phone calls until after 3pm.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Susan: For an instate phone call I believe it was .72 cents per call. You can call prepaid or collect. Out of state was kind of pricey although I am not sure exactly how much.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Susan: It is easier if you are calling cell phones but you do not have to, you can call collect.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Susan: They do. They claim attorney calls are not screened but that is only if the attorneys number is listed with the Bar Association. Meaning if youhave your Attorneys cell phone number, that call is probably being monitored.
