JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Susan: This was the first time I had ever encountered
the police. I was released on bail and I was
free for close to a year before my sentencing. I
had to do drug counceling and random urine
screens the entire year. I also had to appear in
court about once or month
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Susan: I was arrested at the hospital for DUI resulting
in death. The police arrested me as I was being
discharged from the hospital. I was being
questioned at the hospital and brought to the
Town police station from there. I spent the
night there and my attorney finally convinced
them to release me.
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Susan: Court was very scary. My victims friends and
family were all in the courthouse and I was told
by my attorney to plead not guilty. I had never
been introuble before so I had no idea what to
expect from the judge. Once he made a
determination of bail I had to sit in the courts
cellblock until my family could post the bail. I
didn't know what was going on at that point,
nobody told me what was happening or how long I
woulld be there.
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Susan: Driving to Endanger, Death resulting
Driving Under the Influence, death resulting
Possession of Marijuana
I was convicted of all three.
