Interview with Ricardo, Lori, Carlos, Kirk, Tyler, Tami, Enrique and Anna

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Ricardo: Yes, althgough inmates bug you to do a three way phone call .
Lori: only inside the block area...could call and call collect if other side wanted to talk to you
Carlos: Yes but in county you need a calling card
Kirk: Yes there are 2 phones in each tank
Tyler: yes the telephones are easy access on every block cell.
Tami: yes there were 2 payphones in the tank i was in
Enrique: Yes if you had a phone card and minutes to use them.
Anna: Yes as long as your family pre paid to talk or you bought minutes.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Ricardo: 10 dollars a phone call that lasts 20 minutes.
Lori: collect only. did not know...no cell phones then so many calls were made in the cell...only.
Carlos: 15-20$
Kirk: 6.70$ for a 45 minute call I would spend between 50 to 60 dollars each week
Tyler: they have calling cards you can purchase for $5 $10 $15 $20 twenty minutes would be like $5 dollars and average people would spend is like $50 a week.
Tami: you can buy a phone card for $5 for 20 mins or someone can set up an account for you to call them
Enrique: Never used the phone myself so i am not sure but i know the phone card were like 20.00 and they only gave you 40 minutes something like that.
Anna: It is 4 dollars and 15 cents for the first 15 minutes and roughly 6.70 cents for 45

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Ricardo: No basic collect calls.
Lori: no applicable as we did not even have cell phones in side the jail at all
Carlos: Yes
Kirk: No you can set up a prepaid collect call
Tyler: yes unless your family accepts collect calls
Tami: yes or you can have an account set up
Enrique: Yes you can purchase one once a week on certain days
Anna: yes you did or have your family set up an account

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Ricardo: Yes all had a disclaimer that all phone calls are recorded.
Lori: I do not recall this...only that they were close by
Carlos: Im sure they do
Kirk: They can be recorded if needed
Tyler: not sure there is not a way to know
Tami: i was not aware but im sure they did
Enrique: Yes they say all calls are screened but not sure if that was true or not
Anna: yes they do all calls are recorded.
