Pre-sentencing

Interview with Nancy and Bryce

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Nancy: Arrested 11/2010, held with no bond amount for 6 days, arraigned and bond set at $10,000. Ordered to report to pre-trial services. Had mandatory random UA's at $25/each 5x/month, weekly check-ins, and monthly mail-in reports. Bond revoked MANY times for missing friday check-ins although I would call the following monday.
Bryce: Went to court over a period of 7 months. Took a plea bargin which included 2 years probation, and 15 day of jail time, no work release. The judge let me take care of work and personal needs first before reporting. I was sentenced on October 15th, 2012. Did not have to turn myself in until November 9th, 2012.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Nancy: No, a report was made by an ex-boyfriend without my presence or knowledge. Warrant was issued on 11/10/10 and I was arrested at my home on 11/11/10, no questions asked. Transported to Arapahoe County Jail, held on a writ for Douglas. Transported after 4 days, 1st appearance 3 days later.
Bryce: A detective called my mother looking for me. I complied with his requests by meeting him and talking about my charges, he was able to summons me on my charges. I was never officially arrested on my charges, only had to do jail time to complete part of the plea agreement.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Nancy: Arrested at FIRST appearance on 01/04/11 for not appearing with counsel, bond raised to $15,000. Bond revoked many times for having police contact when my car was stolen, missing UA's while I was in their custody, when I gave birth, & not having a permanent residence.Bond revoked even-when no-laws-or-pretrial-requirements violated.
Bryce: Court seemed to drag on and on. I had court once a month, first time was to arraign me of my charges. I than had to request a public defender. Than the public defender had to address the court she was representing me. I was eventually offered a plea bargain, but wasn't able to accept until the next court date.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Nancy: violation/bail/bonds(F5);,criminal/mischief(less than $500(M3),child/abuse-without injury(M3),harassment(M2)-CONVICTED/of criminal/mischief
Bryce: 3 Felony charges. Theft, Check Fraud, and Forgery. The Check Fraud charge was dropped, Forgery was reduced to a misdemeanor, and the Theft charge was put on diversion.
