Interview with Tim, Adrian, Maria, Ashley, Lindsay, Victor, Deborah and Katherine
JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail? Tim: Where something warm and where socks Adrian: tough love is the only way please love the
person and hate the sin. never give up hope that
they will find there way back to being the
person you know and love because some of us do
and some of us become even better people after
we see ourselves threw your eyes Maria: Remain calm as this too shall pass. Do your best
to remember that they can't hold you forever and
that you can't do anything about your situation
while you are incarcerated. Ashley: THAT IT IS VERY BORING AND NO MATTER IF YOU GET
VISITS LETTERS OR PHONE CALLS.YOU ARE STILL
ALONE.STAYING IN TOUCH IS VERY IMPORTANT TO
SOMEONE WHO IS IN JAIL Lindsay: Keep your head up. There will be a very long wait
time in booking and in a holding cell. In booking,
they will allow you to get three numbers from your
phone. Do this wisely. Always have someone know
you are in here. Victor: Pray for their safety and speedy release. It's
expensive and uncomfortable. Do not keep any of your
letters where they can be read by other inmates.
There are a lot of inmates here that try to phish
for information used to steal identities. Deborah: You only get two pairs of underwear for a week. Some of the
staff are emotionally and verbally abusive. Most of the time if
you stay out of trouble you will receive credit for good time. Katherine: THAT ITS A REAL SAD PLACE TO BE, ITS EXTREAMLY
DIRTY. THE FOOF IS NO GOOD AND YOU WILL WAIT
FOREVER TO GET UPSTAIRS TO A BED.ITS JUST A LONG
PROCESS
JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them? Adrian: fix your situation use the time to get back to
being a positive person there is a better place
for you on the out side you just have to get
yourself there no one can do it for you dont
fall into thinking this makes you hard or tough
because it really makes you weak Maria: Remain calm as this too shall pass. Do your best
to remember that they can't hold you forever and
that you can't do anything about your situation
while you are incarcerated. Ashley: JUST TO BECOME A TRUSTEE SO YOU HAVE MORE
PRIVILEDGES.ALSO THAT YOU CAN GET A PENPAL AND
ENTERTAIN YOURSELF WITH ANOTHER CRIMINAL BUT OF
THE OPPOSITE SEX THROUGH WRITING
LETTERS.PARTICIPATE IN AS MANY CLASSES AS YOU CAN Lindsay: Like I said, keep your head up. Mind your own
business, do what you are told, and always find
something to do! Always remember, that this isn't
the end of the world. They can't keep you there
forever, and don't go insane. Victor: Keep your mouth shut as much as possible. Do not
trust other inmates with any information or anything
they tell you. Most everyone there thinks they know
everything about the law, they are all wrong. Deborah: My advice to anyone spending time in this jail would be, keep
to yourself, respect staff as if they were you parent. And get
your family to put lots of money on your books cause comisary
is twice a week and I feels like Christmas all the time. Katherine: BEWARE, ITS DIRTY AND LONG PROCESS.THE FOOD IS
PRETTY BAD. STAY TO YOPURSELF. JUST DO WHAT THEY
SAY AND YOU WILL GET THRU THE PROCESS, ITS SLOW
BUT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN ONE WAY OR
ANOTHER.
JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to. Tim: Never Adrian: na Maria: CCDC, Las Vegas, Nevada, South Tower. (The inmates
are not considered violent so they are housed in a
more open environment.) Ashley: HENDERSON DETENTION CENTER AND LAS VEGAS CITY JAIL Lindsay: None. Victor: Albuquerque Metro Detention Center, New Mexico Boys
School (Juvenile jail), Lower Buckeye Jail(Phoenix,
