Interview with Tim, Adrian, Maria, Ashley, Lindsay, Victor, Deborah and Katherine
JM: How often could you receive visitors? Tim: Never Adrian: never had any Maria: Again, this is an area I didn't learn about
because I wasn't expecting any visitors. Ashley: WE GOT TO HAVE 2 VISITS A WEEK EACH VISIT IS 25
MINUTES AND IT IS OVER A TV AND A PHONE Lindsay: Two sessions per week and the sessions lasted 20
minutes, sadly. My mom would always come and visit
me. It was always so bittersweet. I cried tears of
joy and sadness after our visit ended. Victor: Once a week on Sundays only. They had to be put on a
list that I made. Deborah: You cold get a visit everyday as long as you weren't on
lockdown. The visit is video visit. You don't leave the module
and whoever is visiting you is downstairs in the building. Katherine: ON CERTAIN DAYS YOU COULD GET VISTORS I THINK IT
WAS LIKE 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK FOR 30 MINS AT A TIME
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Tim: No visitors Adrian: no Maria: I didn't have any visitors so I know nothing about
the check-in process. I think all that's required
is that they go through a metal detector and then
show ID to a main booth before seeing an inmate
via closed circuit television. Ashley: NO THE CHECK IN IS THE EASY PART OF THE VISITS.THE
REGISTRATION IS THE HARDEST.HALF YOU DO OVER THE
COMPUTER THE OTHER HALF HAS TO BE IN PERSON DOWN
AT THE JAIL.AFTER THAT IT IS VERY EASY TO SET UP
VISITS Lindsay: Very. And also very filthy. My mom waited a long
time before she could visit me. She saw all kinds
of different people all doing the same. Victor: No one could come to see me because all of my
friends and family live out of state. I was not
visited by anyone during my stay. Deborah: Depending on what day you came you might run into a crowd.
But you were always notified the night before of what time your
visit is scheduled for. Katherine: NOT SURE OF THE TIME THAT IT TAKES TO SEE SOMEONE
I THINK YOU CAN GET ON LINE AND MAKE AN
APPOINTMENT. THEN I THINK YOU HAVE TO BE THE 1 OR
2 HOURS BEFORE.
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Adrian: dont know Maria: I didn't have any visitors so I don't really know
much about this subject. I believe the visitors
area is a bunch of cubes with video screens and
telephone receivers. I think it looks a lot like
some school testing facilities. I know that the
prison does impose a dress code for visitors such
as no low-cut tops for female visitors. Ashley: THE VISITING AT CLARK COUNTY DETENTION CENTER HAS
BEEN HORRIBLE THESE PAST FEW MONTHS.THE BOOTHS
HAVE BEEN BREAKING AND THE JAILS FACILITIES WILL
NOT LET YOU RESCHEDULE AND THEY WILL COUNT IT AS A
VISIT WHICH I DONT THINK IS FAIR AT ALL.BESIDES IT
NOT BEONG FACE TO FACE THE ONLY OTHER THING THATS
LOUSY IS SOMETIMES IT LOUD. Lindsay: For the visitors, they had to schedule an
appointment each time. They would go down to the
detention center and go into a room. It was all
run by webcams and phones. We couldn't see them
physically face to face. The webcam service
wasn't all that great and sometimes it was
difficult to hear. How us inmates found out about
our visitation, is that right before breakfast the
CO would print out and post the visitation
schedule for all to see and I would check to see
if my name is on it everyday. Victor: I don't know, I never had any visitors. I did find
out through others that visitations were held in a
small room with glass separating inmate and visitor,
where you talk on a monitored phone line. No contact
allowed or possible. Seems rather sterile and
designed to reinforce the fact that you are jailed. Deborah: Your basically sitting in a cubicle with a phone and a computer
screen where you can sit and talk. Not too far from fellow
inmates beds, so not too much privacy. If it were free time it
was loud and hard to hear, if everyone we're at their beds was
nice and quiet. Too quiet. Katherine: WELL I MY SIDE THE INSIDE WAS ABOUT 6 BOOTHS AND
A TV SCREEN WITH A PHONE NEXT TO IT. IT IS DIRTY
AND NOT VERY PLEASENT.I REALLY DONT KNOW ABOUT
THE VISITERS SIDE BECAUSE ONLY 1 PERSON CAME TO
SEE ME AND THEY DIDNT SAY HOW THEY FELT ABOUT IT.
