JM: How many different blocks were there? Brad: I was on the 2nd floor grand street side unit 3
but if I had to guess I would say approximately
20-25 blocks. Brit: bout 20 Chuck: well in my particular section it was like a
honeycomb sort of design. a guard office
(refered to as "the bubble") and a circular like
halway surrounding the bubble with about 4 units
circling the halway. the number of units are
unknown to me but there are at least 4 floors
that i knew of and 2 gymnasiums on the roof Ben: I really don't know how many blocks there are. I
can think of possibly 3. Carl: Many.....I heard I was in a better part
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Brad: It was based on what side of the building you
are on.So it was Grand street and Marshall
street. Chuck: the different sides of the jail were named, i am
assuming, according to the streets they faced. i
stayed in 2-g-2 for a while (2=2nd floor,
G=Grand Street side of the jail, 2=second unit
in that particular section.) Ben: There's Main Ave, Marshall Ave, there might have
been a Sheriff Way Carl: They are named after the street they side in
Paterson
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Brad: Philadelphia inmates were housed on the 2nd
floor grand street side, but there was also
Bloods and Crips Gangs and they were also
separated as well as those with sexual assault
cases. Brit: sex offednders where on 2nd floor main gangs was
just about everyplace Chuck: i am not completely certain but i believe 4th
floor was gang unit. beyond that i am uncertain. Ben: There is a block for pedophiles separated from
everyone else, a block for violent inmates, a
block for inmates that have work detail, a block
for mentally instable inmates but I don't
remember the names of the blocks themselves Carl: They did make a half hearted offense to separate
the worst of the worst
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Brad: Supposedly we were on the blocks that had "air-
conditioning" but I couldnt tell most of the
time.Other than that they all appeared to be the
same tp me. Brit: nothing nice worst is very dirty i would try to
shower atleast twice a day and still got merser Chuck: it's a jail, not the hilton. there are no good
parts and bad parts. it is just jail. Ben: There is nothing nice about Passaic County Jail.
There are cockroaches in the food and behind the
water fountain. The food is inedible. The shower
water is either ice cold or blistering hot. Its
overpopulated and a lot of inmates need to sleep
on the floor. I slept not only on the floor but
next to a toilet. Carl: I liked being in the basement-reception area---so
bad ass folks down there but it sure got worse
when I was moved to a cell housing area
