JM: Which jail did you visit?
A Mom: Fresno County Main Jail

JM: How long ago was your visit?
A Mom: Saturday, 3 days ago

JM: How many times did you visit?
A Mom: I have visited about 8 times.

JM: How do you go about making an appointment to see an inmate?
A Mom: There isn't an appointment. You go in on the designated days and times, pull a number and wait to be called.

JM: How long did check-in process take?
A Mom: It depends. Sometimes I can get in within 5 minutes, sometimes an hour. The earlier the better.

JM: Were the guards accommodating?
A Mom: Depends....some are not pleasant, but others are. A lot of it depends on how you approach them.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
A Mom: It's in between glass on phones. Sometimes we're the only ones in there, other times it's crowded. Sometimes there are loud, rude people or uncontrollable kids that interferre with your visit. However, I'm just happy to see my son!

JM: How long was your visit? Did the guards ever allow you to take extra time?
A Mom: Visits are typically 30 minutes long, unless you want to use your full hour and you will not get another visit for the week (2 per week at 30 minutes each or 1 at 60 minutes). However, I like to give the credit to God because almost every visit we've had has been an hour (with only using the 30 minute slot). One wonderful day we got 2 hours!!! Yes, 2 hours!!! It was God!

JM: What was the parking situation like?
A Mom: I have never had a problem with parking. After 6pm and on weekends it's free. Otherwise, bring lots of change.

JM: What advice would you offer to somebody who is going to visit an inmate in this jail?
A Mom: Only take one key and your ID, leave everything else in the trunk of your vehicle or you will have to lock it up inside. Also, respect others while you visit, control your kids, talk quietly and please use proper language! Be patient!!!
